SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

Sessions
Recognised experts in these fields have been selected as plenary speakers and are currently being contacted. The overall theme “Science for Sustainable Nutrition” will be addressed in six sessions covering a wide range of provisional topics:

  • Optimizing resource utilization for future feeds – Wednesday morning
  • Dynamics of digestion and absorption – Wednesday afternoon
  • Models and Methodologies – Thursday morning
  • Functionality of the intestinal microbiome – Thursday afternoon
  • The role of the gut in whole-body functioning – Friday morning

Discussion forum on digestibility markers

Dinsdag 17 mei van 16.15-17.15 uur

The ban of titanium dioxide (E171) as feed additive – consequences and alternatives

Titanium dioxide (E171, TiO2) is one of the most common, and often preferred, marker used for determination of nutrient digestibility. Following EFSA’s evaluation of safety, TiO2 is no longer authorized as an additive in animal nutrition in EU and should be completely withdrawn from the market by 20th of June 2022.

In this session we seek to exchange information among scientists on the use of TiO2 and alternative markers in digestibility studies.  For instance, what are the regulatory and practical conditions or exemptions acquired for use of TiO2 or alternative markers that are not on the current EU authorisation list of feed additives. Are there good or even better added or intrinsic markers, and if so, for what purpose and under what circumstances are they used? Other related topics can also be included.

We welcome you to this informal session to share your knowledge and experience. If you have data to share, you can present 1-3 slides. Please contact Hellen.laerke@anis.au.dk for further information.
